Composers Now welcomes Cathy Hung as the new Executive Director

Cathy Hung, recently recognized in the Arts and Culture Power 100 by City & State magazine and named a Power Player in Arts & Culture by PoliticsNY and amNewYork, is joining Composers Now as its founding Executive Director.

As Executive Director of New York City Children’s Theater, she leads one of the nation's top children’s theaters, inspiring young minds through exceptional theater programs. With over 25 years of executive experience in arts administration in New York City, Ms. Hung has led numerous esteemed cultural institutions such as Young Audiences New York, Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, and New York Chinese Cultural Center.

In 2020, Mayor Bill de Blasio appointed her to the Advisory Council for Arts, Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards selected her to chair the Tourism, Arts, Parks, Entertainment, and Sports Committee.

A classically trained pianist, Ms. Hung’s expansive portfolio spans classical music, jazz, theater, dance, and film, as well as contemporary and studio art, public art, folk traditions, large-scale installations, festivals, and community-centered musical summer camps.

She is the author of Performing Arts Administration, a widely used college textbook in Taiwan, China, and Hong Kong. She currently serves on the boards of New Yorkers for Culture and the Arts and the Queens Museum.

Ms. Hung holds an M.A. in Performing Arts Administration from New York University.
