In an evening devoted to world premieres, the Talea Ensemble returns to National Sawdust to present another installment from its Written for Talea series. With freshly penned works by young masters Mario Diaz de Leon, Joshua Fineberg, and Jason Eckardt, the hour-long show promises a set of sonic adventures.

Heavy metal hero and classical composer Mario Diaz de Leon combines his Scelsi-inspired harmonies with bloodcurdling electronics in his new work. Spectral composer Joshua Fineberg's L'abîme is literally a stereo sound experience by placing the musicians throughout the hall, playing with the listeners' sense of space and orientation. Jason Eckardt's Whorl, written for solo electric guitar and ensemble, is precisely as the title depicts: an exploration of the whole when lines twist, wrap, and spiral around each other. Written for both the Talea Ensemble and virtuosic guitarist Nico Couck, Whorl creates a seemingly hypnotic texture.
