In December 2016, saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Ayumi Ishito released her debut studio endeavor, an album entitled View From A Little Cave. The new collection of songs, entirely composed by Ishito, is available on all major digital music platforms. The record release show is scheduled on February 15th, 2017 at Muchmore's in Brooklyn.
Ishito has been an active member of the music community in New York since 2010, following her jazz studies at the Berklee College of Music. In that time, she has immersed herself in an array of genres, performing jazz, blues, gospel, funk, experimental, world music, and so much more. As a result, Ishito has become an increasingly well-rounded musician, a trait that fuels her unique original style in View From A Little Cave.
Ishito's new album was recorded with her longstanding quintet, which was formed in 2011. Unlike traditional jazz saxophone quintets, however, Ishito's outfit focuses on musical stylings more akin to indie, progressive, and avant-garde music. Her compositions concentrate on rhythmic shifts and ensemble texture rather than featured solos, differentiating her sound from other jazz efforts in the indie music scene.
