tickets / more info

The Kings County Family Court celebrates Black History Month on February 26th. This year's event is the second annual celebration organized by the Honorable Jeanette Ruiz, Deputy Administrative Judge, NYC Family Court and Supervising Judge, Kings County Family Court. The program features a keynote address by the Honorable Sheila Abdus-Salaam, Associate Judge, NYS Court of Appeals, and a tribute to Brooklyn-born composer Alvin Singleton.

The tribute to Alvin Singleton includes a performance of his Mookestueck for five-string electric viola performed by Martha Mooke, to whom the work is dedicated. Following the performance, Mr. Singleton and Ms. Mooke will be joined by Tania León, founder and artistic director of Composers Now, for an informal dialogue and conversation with the audience.

Listen to ASCAP's audio portrait of Mr. Singleton, featuring Mookestueck.
